The United States Pharmacopeia General Chapter 797 (USP <797>) defines the minimum standards for sterile compounding that are critical for patient safety. This educational activity will focus on the practical application of these standards when assigning beyond-use dates (BUDs) for compounded sterile preparations (CSPs). Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and medication safety officers frequently encounter challenges when determining appropriate BUDs due to variations in compounding environments, facility compliance levels, and operational workflows. Participants will explore how BUD determinations may differ across practice settings such as fully compliant cleanroom suites and segregated compounding areas. In this interactive web-based activity, learners will apply these concepts to real-world situations, reinforcing how facility-specific conditions can impact appropriate BUD selection for CSPs.
