SCOPE of Pain Podcast Series

This SCOPE of Pain Podcast Series is designed to help you safely and effectively manage patients with acute and/or chronic pain, when appropriate, with opioid analgesics. Through the case of Michelle Jones, a 36-year-old who has a displaced right femoral neck fracture due to a motor vehicle crash, you'll learn how to:
  • Assess pain and function
  • Educate patients about opioid risks and limitations of benefit
  • Assess for opioid misuse risk
  • Develop patient-centered treatment goals
  • Monitor patients prescribed opioids for benefits and harms
  • Use a risk-benefit framework when initiating, maintaining, modifying, or tapering opioid analgesics
  • Diagnose and manage patients with opioid use disorder with or without concurrent pain
The eight podcast episodes should be listened to sequentially, and together will take approximately 3 hours.

This updated SCOPE of Pain Online Training is designed to help you safely and effectively manage patients with acute and/or chronic pain, when appropriate, with opioid analgesics. Through this cased-based program, you will learn how to:
  • Assess pain and function
  • Educate patients about opioid risks and limitations of benefit
  • Assess for opioid misuse risk
  • Develop patient-centered treatment goals
  • Monitor patients prescribed opioids for benefits and harms
  • Use a risk-benefit framework when initiating, maintaining, modifying, or tapering opioid analgesics

This online training is set up as two separate one-hour modules.

SCOPE of Pain supplemental trainings are designed as follow up trainings after the free 2-module online activity, a 6-Part Podcast series, or a live or archived webinar have been completed.

These in-depth supplemental trainings focus on:

  • Effective communication skills and the potential risks and benefits of opioids for managing acute and chronic pain
  • The assessment of opioid misuse risk and recognition and treatment of opioid use disorder
  • Helping you safely and effectively manage patients with acute and/or chronic pain, when appropriate, with opioid analgesics
